Picked up a few beverages at the liquor store. Never actually had any of these ones before so it should be interesting. The Ovila is brewed with plums and the Traquair is brewed with coriander so it should be interesting.

Interesting, never had any of those. I do like New Belgium's Trippel, which is brewed with coriander and is very pleasant.

No local beer markets, huh? I don't know how I'd live in a place that didn't have one of those.

You're in Utah aren't you? I lived there for 7 years and HATED having to go to liquor stores.

Fun fact. The Delirium brewery built a new brewery a while ago. The first 25 people dressed in a pink elephant suit in front of the new brewery before the 22 of march 2012 got "a year's supply" or 15 cases of Delirium Tremens

17 of the 25 people came from the student town of Delft, the netherlands. A pallet of delirium destined for you and your friends is a glorious sight.

I left Seattle to go to school there (Westminster) and then hung around for a couple years after. It was culture shock for sure. Still get back down to the old SLICK once or twice a year. I was there in October and went to Lucky 13. That place is great.

I don't spend much time down there. I am up in the park city area, near summit park. It's less mormonized up here but those damn liquor laws

Happy Birthday! Enjoy your fine cache of brews!

If you find the Ovila Golden around you should try it. I think the Ovila line is some of the best brews that Sierra Nevada produces.

I must also say you have a nice eclectic eye for beers and it is very much along the lines of some of my beer purchases go. I've had people in the beer stores look at me funny for bringing some weird combinations of styles to the register (that is also after spending about an hour and a half deciding on what I am going to buy).

Cheers!

Welcome to my world :) I'm writing some reviews on a few beers now.. a cocoa stout at 10%, Black IPA at 7.2% and a US Style IPA at 7,2%.. I feel a bit buzzed.

Thanks! They should be cold now so I will dive in! Definitely look out for the Golden I have never had any of the Ovila line before.

Beer selection is weird for me. I never go in with any sort of clue. Just randomly pick things that pique my fancy.

I usually stop taking notes after three - four beers.. Not that I can't still write, but it comes to a point where you no longer have the ability to distinguish one hop from another.. A review that says "well, it tastes sorta like citrus" won't be any good.. I need to be able to tell the difference between simcoe and motueka.

The Ovila I had was brewed with tangerines, and it was fantastic.

Well you mainly got a Belgian thing going on with that selection with one odd ball of hoppiness thrown in there, but that is pretty much how I pick beer if I'm in a discovering mood.

Lately I've been on a 21st Amendment kick with their Fireside Chat, its a decently strong ale at 7.9% but it isn't hoppy at all and has some nice spices thrown in the brew which make it a nice companion now that it is a little chilly out.

I am not that advanced in my tasting. I'm more of a well this tastes good then after a few good ones switch to the more mundane

Hehe... well.. I might have seemed like a douche there... I'm not that elitist when I drink beer with friends.. A beer is a beer... just don't give me a PBR :)

Kinja'd!!!0

I'm a fan of stouts and porters as well. Speak Easy's Butcher Shop (I believe that is what it is called) is a good strong black ale that I'm not sure if it is a seasonal or just a one time release thing, but if you see it give it a whirl. There are so many damn tasty beers to try! Why can't I have one of everything in my house right now?

Kinja'd!!! PowderHound > Laird Andrew Neby Bradleigh

Kinja'd!!!0

No I don't see it as elitist. I just don't have a sophisticated palate. I can't pick out what I am tasting. I can gauge how heavy it is and hoppy but I can't say something like, oh well this has a forward taste of apricots and a remaining taste of urine of a monkey who has eaten to many elderberries.

I won't turn down a PBR. They have their place.

Utah can't be friendly to the discerning beer drinker, enjoy what you can while you can.

Kinja'd!!! Laird Andrew Neby Bradleigh > PowderHound

Kinja'd!!!0

I won't say NO to a PBR, just as I won't say NO to a tuborg here in Norway.. And yes, they have their place, at a bbq with friends.. spicy as shit food and stuff.

But since I have rather large piercings, wear glasses AND have a moustache.. I can't be seen with a PBR :P

As for palate.. well, that is something you learn. It's not like I was born with the ability to distingiush one hop from another :) Heck, give me some red wine and ask me too tell you what it taste and I would probably say "uhh... it tastes rather sour"

AHHHHHHH!!!!! The hipster stigma. fuck them.

The delirium had something. no idea what that taste was.

I went: Ovila. Delirium. Tranquair. now on the IPA. I love it all but you would have had to been there in the moment to hear my description of them I can't even remember what I said about them.

I think I rate them from 1 to last: Tranquair, delirium, Ovila, IPA? But the IPA was such a wildcard it is just not comparable to the rest.

I remember (sort of...) not long after I discovered good beer I picked up a rather potent build your own 6'er. 2 of the 6 were Dogfish Head, the World Wide Stout and the 120 IPA. I really hadn't paid all that much attention to the abv, and I really had never been much of a drinker since I really never got a taste for crap beer. Both hit at around 18%. Yeah, back to the "sort of." Anyway, it was summer, early dinner, mowed the lawn, came in, sat down popped the WWS, and started relaxing. And man, that was some good stuff! It went down real easy, and I thought what the heck, them Dogfish make a good beer, let's try the other! Grabbed the 120, and down she went too. anyway, this took place over about 30-40 minutes, and after I finished those 2 I stood up to go do something, they hit me like a sack a hammers. I sat back down and decided what ever it was could wait.
